Emmerline returns to AMWT&C after retiring as the Chief Assistant City Attorney for the City of Inglewood.  Re-joining the Medical Malpractice Group, the talented associate takes up right where she left off twelve years ago in medical malpractice, hospital and insurance defense litigation.

After 19 solid years of defense practice, Emmerline had her choice of law firms after retirement, but she chose to return to AMWT&C.   She explains, “The firm is committed to providing a well-developed and effective defense for its clients, which is essential to the proper handling of cases.  That is our goal in every case. We achieve this by analyzing and understanding the facts and circumstances of each case, as well as the applicable law.”

Emmerline believes that a first-rate strategy is critical in medical malpractice defense.  “I think that if most clients could have what they want- they want a good defense- that whatever they did would be defensible.   If not, then they want the best possible resolution-and not just to avoid paying a lot of money, but also to assure that the injured person is getting the treatment that they really need.” 

At the City Attorney’s Office Emmerline prosecuted state misdemeanors and municipal code violations.  She also successfully handled a myriad of diverse civil matters, ranging from slip and falls to complex, multimillion dollar cases which included personal injury claims, civil rights violations, and inverse condemnations.   Her challenges included daily management of the City’s support staff, risk manager, attorneys and outside legal counsel. She even stepped up and acted as Interim City Attorney for two years.
